The OMA Mandate
The OFFICE ON MUSLIM AFFAIRS (OMA) is created in 1987 by virtue of Executive Order No. 122-A as amended by Executive Order No. 295. The Office is subject to the supervision and control of the OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT of the Philippines. Aside from being an agency mandated to uplift and improve the conditions of the Muslim Filipinos, OMA is also the main institution provided under the Philippine government tasked to address the various issues facing Muslim Communities.
OMA acts as the bridge of the government in ensuring the participation of Filipino Muslims in nation building. The charter of the Office provides a strong mandate with a broader and wider latitude of functions and responsibilities. On the other hand, OMA is further mandated by law to preserve and develop the culture, traditions, institutions and well-being of Muslim Filipinos in conformity with the country’s laws and in consonance with national unity and development. OMA is also tasked with the formulation and implementation of State policies and programs affecting Muslims residing in the Philippines.

The Office on Muslim Affairs, under the leadership of Undersecretary Datu Ali B. Sangki and in support of the celebration of the 110th Anniversary of the declaration of Philippine Independence, set-up a Halal and Social Services Booths at the Sentro K3 (Kaisahan, Kagalingan at Kalayaan ng Bayan) at Luneta, Metro Manila. Sentro K3 provided government agencies a venue to provide their services free-of-charge to the public. The OMA Booths was the second most-visited Booths in the event and some key government officials like Secretary Cerge M. Remonde of the Presidential Management Staff and newly-appointed Civil Service Commission Chairman Ricardo L. Saludo took time checking Halal-certified products.

PHILIPPINE MUSLIM CULTURAL SHOWCASE AT PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENCE DAY. The Office on Muslim Affairs (OMA), under the leadership of Undersecretary Datu Ali B. Sangki, sponsored a grand showcase of the beauty and grandeur of the Philippine Muslim Culture when it held a Muslim native dance and fashion show by Muslim Filipinos during the celebration of the 110th Anniversary of the declaration of Philippine Independence.

2008 Program and Performance Review and Analysis. Undersecretary Datu Ali B. Sangki recently presided the 2008 Program and Performance Review and Analysis of the past and current programs and activities of the Office on Muslim Affairs held last March 24-28 at Robbinsdale Hotel, Quezon City. The seminar was attended by all the regional directors of the OMA, including the division chiefs and other officials responsible for the implementation of OMA projects. OMA officials also signed a Covenant of Commitment whereby every official committed to exhaust all possible means to implement projects and programs beneficial to Muslim Communities. Usec. Sangki, being an action-oriented official, emphasize the need to establish coordination and working relations with the different government agencies in serving the interests of the Muslim Filipinos.
